Discovery Green is an 11.78-acre public urban park in Downtown Houston, Texas, bounded to the west by La Branch Street, to the north by McKinney Street, to the east by Avenida de las Americas, and to the south by Lamar Street. The park is located near the George R. Brown Convention Center and the entertainment district of Avenida Houston. Discovery Green includes a lake, bandstands, public performance venues, two dog runs, a playground, and numerous recreational lawns. In the early 2000s, the City of Houston and a group of local philanthropic organizations, including the Kinder Foundation, formed a public-private partnership with the goal of constructing a new public green space Downtown.

This partnership provided funding for acquiring several surface parking lots on the east side of Downtown. Following the completion of land purchases in 2004, the Discovery Green Conservancy and the City raised a combined $125 million for the park’s construction.
